Proposed Plan for Elementary Library Budget 2016-2017

NEW FURNITURE:  table top whiteboards, flexible furniture, movable chairs, desks and bookshelves to allow for more movement and student peer collaboration of projects, also library beanbag chairs for each student as the learning will become more relaxed for our kids. Flexibility in the library allows for more movement in student learning and provides more space for students to work in various centers of the library. Also moveable chairs, desks and bookshelves to allow for more movement and student peer collaboration of various projects

“Students are drawn to spaces that are open, inviting, and stimulating; spaces where they become fully engaged in the conversation and in the excitement of sharing new ideas” (JISC Slideshow)

LIBRARY SUPPLIES: barcodes and labels, scanners, clipboards, pencils- all needed to for class projects and student group collaborative learning

JUICE BAR/SNACK BAR:  Think of how many Americans get work done, they congregate at...Starbucks. Just like the learning, we want to bring real life experiences into our school library so that students know that the library is their home away from home. The library is no longer a place of shh-shing, but an enviornment of higher level thinking and reading where students have more meaningful discussions on topics of study and can gain multiple perspectives of their peers. Whether it is doing a class research project using laptops or working on homework, students will feel a sense of school efficacy with their school work.

STAFFING: Full-time librarian in each of our 5 elementary schools as well as a Teaching Assistant. It is essential we provide the instruction of a certified Media Specialist to enhance the Library Media Program for our District. We want all of our students to to obtain higher level, informational literacy andcritical thinking skills for the 21st century- having a full time LMS in your school can help us reach this goal!

CHARGING CENTER:  a place in the library where students can charge electronics; not only devices owned by the school districts but also their own.

MORE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY:  Instructional Technology devices- fosters more independent digital literacy with the implementation of ratio: student 1-1 Ipads and Chrome books for all students.

Your vote to support our library budget this year will:
